DENVER (KDVR) -- If you've ever driven on Colorado roads, you have probably seen the signs that tell you to move over or slow down for emergency and maintenance vehicles, or for trucks putting on chains.Well, starting August 7, the law expands and you'll be required to move over and slow down for any vehicle with its hazard lights on.The new change is because HB 23-1123, which passed with bipartisan support in March and was signed into law soon after, will go into effect. What is the move over, slow down law?Essentially, when you see a vehicle on the side of the road that the law applies to, you have to move over so there's one lane of buffer between you and the vehicle. Colorado’s paid sick leave law will expand in August If you can't, you need to slow down to 20 mph or less if the speed limit is over 45 mph and 25 mph or less if the speed limit is under that.If you don't follow the law and are caught, you face a fine of up to $100 and may have DMV points added to your license, wh...

Coast Guard lieutenant commander describes effort to rescue people from sinking boat in Boston Harbor

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 22:29:06 GMT

A Coast Guard officer on Monday described a race to rescue four people over the weekend after a boat began sinking in Boston Harbor. The people were successfully taken out of the water and brought to Charlestown marina, where they were evaluated by paramedics, according to state police. Speaking with 7NEWS, though, Coast Guard Commander Kyle Coleman said the incident could have been much worse.Emergency crews responded around 5 p.m. Sunday after receiving a mayday broadcast from a boat that was taking on water off the north side of Peddocks Island in Boston Harbor, state police said in a statement on Sunday. State police said the four people on the boat were putting on life jackets and abandoning ship as crews arrived. “They sank pretty quickly,” Coleman said in an interview. Coleman said state police personnel were about three minutes away from the boat in trouble when the initial call went out. State police, Coleman said, were able to get to the scene and help get t...

Infield shakeups loom for Red Sox amidst several returns from injury

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 22:29:06 GMT

After days of speculation, the Red Sox activated Pablo Reyes from the 10-day injured list on Monday morning, and optioned pitchers Justin Garza and Brandon Walter to Triple-A Worcester. The Red Sox waited as long as they could before making a decision about Reyes, whose rehab assignment expired on Sunday night. He’s out of options, so keeping him in the minors wasn’t on the table. But the predicament in which the Red Sox find themselves is much bigger than Reyes alone, and activating him is only a stopgap. They’re now carrying four middle infielders (Reyes, Christian Arroyo, Yu Chang, and Kiké Hernández) with only three middle infield roster spots.Justin Turner has also been playing some second base of late, as Alex Cora wants his offensive production as often as possible. Inadvertently, that decision has highlighted how much more successful the Red Sox can be when using certain players. They have to pare down this area of the roster almost immediately, as John Schreiber is slate...

Ayotte announces gubernatorial bid, warns New Hampshire is becoming Massachusetts

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 22:29:06 GMT

After six years outside of professional politics, former U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte threw her hat into the gubernatorial ring on Monday, warning New Hampshire voters their state is on the cusp of becoming its liberal neighbor to the south.“I’m running for governor because New Hampshire is one election away from becoming Massachusetts – from becoming something we are not,” Ayotte said in announcing her bid. “I was born here and raised here. I raised my kids here, and you know what? I am going to die here because this state and its people are different. What we have here is worth fighting for.”Following Gov. Chris Sununu’s unexpected announcement last week he would not seek a fifth term as New Hampshire’s chief executive, Ayotte issued a not-so-veiled hint at a re-entry into politics. Her Monday campaign launch guarantees a primary contest for both major parties, with former Republican state Senate President Chuck Morse and a pair of Democrats already declared.Sununu’s exit from the...

Yankees’ veterans starting to make strides at the plate

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 22:29:06 GMT

As Anthony Rizzo returned to the Yankees’ dugout following a home run on Sunday, his teammates initially gave him the silent treatment. It was a fitting response for a player whose quiet bat had not hit a home run in over two months.Rizzo produced a third-inning solo shot in a win over Kansas City for his first home run since May 20. The much-needed dinger was the highlight of Rizzo’s first four-hit game of the season. He also scored three runs, drove in two and hit a double.“It’s easy to look at it and say I’m drowning and I’m in the water, but I just kept saying I’m on the boat and just waiting for the winds to pick up and the sails to set,” said Rizzo, who hit .182/.274/.218 in the 45 games between longballs. “You’ve got to have fun with it. I think the reaction from the dugout and the guys shows that through a down [time], you’ve got to try to find highs as far as keeping yourself up, staying positive. You got to ...

History was given a salute under the State House dome. With Monday marking 75 years since President Harry Truman ordered an end to segregation by race among the nation’s armed forces, Gov. Maura Healey called together members of the state’s National Guard and veterans of past conflicts to celebrate the occasion and call for a further commitment on fighting racism and inequity.Healey, flanked by Tuskegee Airman Brig. Gen. Enoch “Woody” Woodhouse and the state’s newly appointed and first Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Jon Santiago, juxtaposed the occasion with this week’s start of the first National Association for the Advancement of Colored People National Convention to be held in the city in over four decades.“We thought that there was no better way to begin this historic week in the city of Boston, in the state of Massachusetts, than by honoring the veterans of color, who not only fought for their own rights, but whose service made all of our freedoms possible,” she ...

Robbins: Display of graphic Hunter Biden photos new low for GOP

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 22:29:06 GMT

Congress has never enjoyed stratospheric esteem among Americans, who long ago came to understand that their elected representatives include a fair share of lightweights, airheads and demagogues. “Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress,” Mark Twain postulated. “But I repeat myself.” In the musical “1776,” John Adams decried his hapless fellow members of the Continental Congress thusly: “We piddle, twiddle and resolve; not one damned thing do we solve.”But there’s piddling, twiddling and resolving, and then there’s other stuff. The debasement of Congress to which we were treated last week was something else again, not merely a national embarrassment but one which made us a global laughingstock. Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had blown up and then displayed for television cameras photographs of President Biden’s son Hunter nude, having sexual relations with various women. This was for the simple purpose of humiliating the son and inflictin...
