DELTONA, Fla. (WSVN) – A Central Florida man is facing multiple charges of animal cruelty after authorities discovered his dogs had not been properly fed for approximately five weeks and were exposed to severe heat. Zachary Michael Crain, 26, of Deltona, was taken into custody on Tuesday night and subsequently booked into jail Wednesday morning. He faces three felony counts of animal cruelty and three misdemeanor counts of unlawful confinement/abandonment of animals without sufficient food or water.The investigation unfolded when deputies, responding to a request from Deltona Animal Control, arrived at Crain’s residence on Abbott Avenue on Tuesday evening. Animal Control officers had previously taken custody of three dogs — Dolly, Buttercup, and Joker — after they escaped their enclosure earlier in the day. Several communities in Massachusetts and Rhode Island were left with flooding and wind damage Friday after severe weather swept through the region, spawning multiple tornadoes and knocking out power to thousands of people. Officials at the National Weather Service issued several tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flood warnings beginning early in the morning. Washington, DC (CNN) — US mortgage rates surged this week, rising to their highest level in 21 years.The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 7.09% in the week ending August 17, up from 6.96% the week before, according to data from Freddie Mac released Thursday. A year ago, the 30-year fixed-rate was 5.13%.Rates have been above 6.5% since the end of May and climbing higher since mid-July. The last time rates were over 7% was in November of last year when they hit 7.08%. Daniel Wheeler, a tag-team champion in All Elite Wrestling, was arrested Friday morning by the Orlando Police Department and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. James Buckley, an early agitator for Richard Nixon’s resignation and winner of a landmark lawsuit challenging campaign spending limits, died Friday at age 100.Buckley died at a hospital in Washington, D.C., according to his son David Buckley of Arlington, Virginia.Buckley was the fourth of 10 children of a millionaire oilman and older brother of conservative commentator William F. BOSTON — A rare Rhode Island tornado lifted a car off a highway Friday as severe weather swept already storm-weary New England, damaging homes, flooding roads and toppling trees.Tornadoes were reported in several spots in the same general area of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, but officials said it wasn’t yet clear whether it was one or multiple twisters.
