AFD responds after apartment unit in downtown high-rise catches fire AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department said it responded to a fire at a high-rise 507 Sabine Street in Austin Thursday morning. AFD said the fire was on the tenth floor of the building.AFD reported a person was trapped on a balcony of the building, but they were removed."Trapped person has been removed from the building safely and has been delivered to Austin EMS for evaluation.," AFD said in a social media post.AFD said a primary search was completed with no one else found, but a secondary search was underway to check additional apartments.According to AFD, an unconscious pet was removed from the fire apartment and was being treated.The building was in the 500 block off Sabine Street, according to AFD.Fire crews were able to get the fire under control, according to AFD, and as of 11:31 a.m., the majority of the smoke had been cleared.AFD is expected to hold a media briefing surrounding the incident.

Woodbury sisters fight back against Alzheimer’s with fundraiser Leah Huxtable and Eva Thompson experienced the financial burden of caring for a mother with Alzheimer’s disease. Since then, they’ve tried to ease that burden for others.The Bash For Brains Fund will be hosting its tenth annual fundraiser Saturday, Sep. 9. (NEWS10) -- SUNY Cobleskill has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Department of Environmental Conservation toward flooding prevention along the banks of the Cobleskill Creek on the school's campus. Troy man arrested for possessing cocaine, illegal gun TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Troy Police Department arrested Nijiquaan Y. Stroud, 22, on Tuesday night. Albany man struck by car and killed, driver flees scene ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man died after being hit by a car in the parking lot of a truck stop in Plattsburgh. Wayne Haupt, 53, was taken to the University of Vermont Health Network at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) where he was later pronounced dead. Colonie Center kiosk thief sentenced to prison ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A man accused of stealing property from multiple kiosks at the Colonie Center Mall was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison. Pashton Rifiqie, 28, of Schenectady, who pleaded guilty to criminal possession of stolen property in the second degree, was also ordered to pay full restitution. No-contact orders of protection were issued on behalf of all victims.

Man tased after threatening Creve Coeur officers CREVE COEUR, Mo. – A man who was yelling at officers and threatening them with a bat during a welfare check is now facing charges of resisting arrest and using offensive language in public. Omar Carrera, 42, has been charged with assault and resisting arrest. The court has set his bond at $75,000, cash-only.
