HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (WSVN) — A Mallard duck was found with an arrow through its neck in a park located in Costa Mesa. The arrow, believed to have been shot from a crossbow, narrowly missed the bird’s trachea, providing a small ray of hope for the bird’s survival. The Mallard was discovered by a 10-year-old girl from Silverado who noticed the bird’s distress and immediately called for help. Wildlife experts from the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach were called to the scene and were able to safely sedate the bird and remove the arrow.Despite the traumatic injury, the Mallard duck is now recovering at the center, much to the surprise of the staff. “We can see the wall of the trachea up here and the arrow is right next to it, so it narrowly missed going through the trachea which we were very relieved to find out,” said Dr. Elizabeth Wood, who treated the bird.Animal control officers are now working to get DNA off of the arrow ...Jetson Electric recalls 42-volt Jetson Rogue hoverboard

The iconic image of the T-Rex, with its sharp, jagged teeth menacingly protruding from its mouth, may not be entirely accurate, according to a new study published in the Journal of Science. An international team of scientists examined the tooth structure and other features of predatory dinosaurs, including the T-Rex and the Velociraptor, and found that their mouths likely had scaly, lizard-like lips covering and sealing their teeth. This finding challenges the commonly-held belief that these prehistoric predators had visible upper teeth that hung over their lower jaws. Instead, the researchers suggest that the dinosaurs’ mouths more closely resembled those of lizards, rather than crocodiles. The scientists also believe that these lips likely did not have muscles, meaning the animals could not curl their lips or snarl. This means that the fearsome snarls and growls that we associate with these dinosaurs in popular culture may not have been possible. While the image of a toothy T-Re...Police searching for 3 suspects in connection with armed robbery in Manchester, NH

The federal government filed a lawsuit against railroad Norfolk Southern over environmental damage caused by a train derailment on the Ohio-Pennsylvania border that spilled hazardous chemicals into nearby creeks and rivers. The U.S. Department of Justice said it’s seeking to hold the company accountable for “unlawfully polluting the nation’s waterways and to ensure it pays the full cost of the environmental cleanup,” in the lawsuit filed Thursday. The derailment in early February led to the evacuation of half of the 5,000 residents of East Palestine when responders intentionally burned toxic chemicals in some of the derailed cars to prevent an uncontrolled explosion.Chemicals from the derailed cars and firefighting foam seeped into creeks and rivers near the village, with some eventually ending up in the Ohio River.Government officials say tests haven’t found dangerous levels of chemicals in the air or water in the area, but many residents remain concerned th...Deadly rollover crash prompts lane closures on SR-94

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — Prosecutors in Senegal who had sought two years in prison for opposition leader Ousmane Sonko have filed an appeal after he was given a much lighter, two-month suspended sentence for his conviction on libel charges in a case his supporters say was politically motivated. The outcome of Thursday’s verdict allows Sonko to run for president next year though he still faces unrelated criminal charges in a pending rape case that would disqualify him if he is convicted. Sonko is widely viewed as the top opposition candidate in Senegal’s elections next year. Sonko has not yet decided whether to appeal the sentence in the libel case, his lawyer Bamba Cisse told The Associated Press.Sonko was also ordered to pay about $330,000 to Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang, who accused the politician of defamation and public insults. Neither Sonko nor his lawyers were present on Thursday when the verdict and sentence were delivered. Each of Sonko’s previous court ap...Former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole not seeking re-election, leaving this spring
