Frustrated Fighting Irish lament miscues that led to late loss against Buckeyes SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The anguish was evident all over coach Marcus Freeman’s face Saturday night.Notre Dame needed one stop to beat then-No. 6 Ohio State for the first time since 1936, and yet it couldn’t finish the job.Instead, a series of miscues over the final, frantic minutes allowed the Buckeyes to keep their perfect season and playoff hopes intact with an improbable 17-14 victory that will force the Fighting Irish to search for answers this week.“As I just told the team, it’s disappointing,” Freeman said before seeing his team fall two spots to No. 11 in the new Associated Press Top 25. “We had a lot of opportunities to win that game and then we didn’t. Credit to them for continuing to battle back and be resilient when we went up. We’ve got to finish that game.”Chalk it up as yet another learning experience for the second-year Irish coach and his players.A year ago, Freeman lost his first two games, at Ohio State, his alma mater, followed by an inexplicabl...

‘I miss it all’: NW Miami-Dade woman looks back on treehouse she called home for 17 years It’s gone, but not forgotten.A South Florida homeowner reflected on the treehouse that, she said, was her oasis for nearly two decades and spurred a legal showdown that led to the structure being taken down.Longtime Northwest Miami-Dade resident Shawnee Chasser spoke with 7News on Saturday about the now completed dismantling of her home.“Well, it’s been a big demolition, and I don’t even like looking at it,” she said. “It’s sad.”It has been a difficult week for Chasser, as she said goodbye to her way of life for the past 17 years.“I feel like a bird in a cage when I’m in a house. It just doesn’t work for me,” she said, “but I’m thinking that a lot of people have told me that there’s going to be an outside structure. I’m just praying for that day”The final pieces of the treehouse Chasser called home have finally been dismantled.“I tried to not be here. Yeah, because, you know, ...

‘Expend4bles’ opens with epic flop while ‘Nun II’ claims top spot again at the box office LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham weren’t enough to save “Expend4bles” from a debut box office flop. The fourth installment suffered the action-packed franchise’s worst opening weekend while “The Nun II” took home the top spot for a third straight week, data firm Comscore reported on Sunday. The Lionsgate and Millennium’s film, also known as “Expendables 4,” pulled in a mediocre $8.3 million for the big-budget project. It starred several popular names, including Stallone, Statham, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox and Dolph Lundgren. It’s been nearly a decade since the franchise released a film, which opened with $15.8 million and eventually grossed $214 million globally. But times have certainly changed, as the film barely placed second behind “The Nun 2,” a horror movie that earned $8.4 million in its first week. It’s been a solid start for that Warner Bros.’ project — a spinoff from the lucrative “Conjuring” fr...

France withdraws troops from Niger French President Emmanuel Macron announced Sunday that French troops would be withdrawn from Niger in the next couple of months, in the wake of a coup d’état in the Western African country this summer. The military withdrawal from Niger comes after French troops were ousted from neighboring Burkina Faso and Mali, amid growing anti-French sentiment across the continent and military failures in containing jihadist terrorism in the Sahel region.Macron also said France would imminently withdraw its ambassador, who had been living under effective house arrest in the French embassy in the capital Niamey, according to French authorities.“France has decided to withdraw its ambassador.

Space rocks: NASA recovers sample from asteroid NASA’s first asteroid samples fetched from deep space parachuted into the Utah desert Sunday to cap a seven-year journey. In a flyby of Earth, the Osiris-Rex spacecraft released the sample capsule from 63,000 miles out. The small capsule landed four hours later on a remote expanse of military land, as the mothership set off after another asteroid.“We have touchdown!” Mission Recovery Operations announced, immediately repeating the news since the landing occurred three minutes early. Officials later said the orange striped parachute opened four times higher than anticipated — around 20,000 feet — basing it on the deceleration rate.To everyone’s relief, the capsule was intact and not breached, keeping its 4.5 billion-year-old samples free of contamination. Within two hours of touchdown, the capsule was inside a temporary clean room at the Defense Department’s Utah Test and Training Range, hoisted there by helicopter.“It’s like ‘Wow!'̶...
