DENVER (KDVR) -- Despite Colorado ranking near the top of the list nationally for auto theft, Denver's Right of Way Enforcement Division does not have access to a statewide database of stolen vehicles. According to a city spokesperson, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation rescinded access to the list to Denver's Right of Way Enforcement Division because it's not a police agency. View the latest Weather Alerts in Denver and across Colorado on FOX31 The news came as a surprise to Ed Beery, who recently received an overdue notice for a ticket that was reportedly placed on his stolen work truck more than a week after it was reported stolen."Eight days after we reported it stolen, the city of Denver wrote the citation," Beery said. "It's malfeasance." Beery said the truck was eventually recovered from an impound lot two weeks later, after being stripped for parts. His company had to sell what was left of the truck and buy a new one.“All this time is taken away from produ...Wine distributors say grocery store wine sales are hurting business

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (KDVR) -- A distributor of Australian wines based in Fort Collins says the law that allowed wine to be sold in grocery stores is having a harsh effect on his company and small liquor stores. The law went into effect March 1. FOX31 covered the concerns of mom-and-pop liquor stores when it happened. But now distributors, like Australian Beverage Company, say grocery store wine is killing their bottom line. The company distributes to stores across the state."I’ve done very well with a lot of small retailers, and it’s — they are sort of my lifeblood, and I am talking to people now and no one is ordering anything," Clugston said. "Here we are coming up on Thanksgiving and no one is ordering, because they don’t know if they are going to be able to survive."He said it comes down t...Paradise Lost: Broward tenants say landlords won’t repair homes amid growing rental crisis

LOS ANGELES (AP) — In a room filled with several influential Hollywood figures, “Barbie” star America Ferrera used her platform to address an ongoing industry issue: Latino representation in film.“According to the numbers, the dominant narrative our industry puts into the world is that Latinos either don’t exist or they are poor, immigrant criminals,” the Emmy winner said before a gathered crowd Thursday at the Academy Women’s Luncheon. The actor said she was taken aback after she learned that Hispanics and Latinos remained underrepresented in film over the past 16 years, according to a recent report by the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative.Despite the growth the Hispanic population in the U.S., Ferrera pointed out the study found that similar growth hadn’t happened in film. In last year’s movies, the study found that more than half of Latinos appearing on screen were depicted as criminals.“I’m personally devastated yet again,” said Ferrer...Invest in Kids Act set to expire as Illinois legislative session comes to close

"I doubt very much he would be here without a tax credit scholarship and yet he's come here, he has absolutely thrived, got himself set up for college."Hundreds of people rallied in Springfield this week in a last ditch effort to save the program, with Illinois republicans pushing to bring the issue to a vote, but efforts fell short on the last day of the legislative session, and the Invest in Kids Act was officially brought to an end."I, myself, was an underpriviledged kid that got a scholarship to a high school.
